ABOUT 290 MEN ON THE BOOKS. A few moro applications to racmborsliip of the new Carters' and Motor Vehicle Drivers' Union were received by the secretary (Mr. Sinclair), who now. has between 280 and 200 members on his books. Mr. Sinclair states that practically all tho permanent jobs liavo now been filled, and the employers wcro in tho position of being abb to pick and choose. Ho had asked one firm of carriers yesterday if they could find vacancies for applicants, and tho reply had been that they could only place one man, but ho must he a good' one.
