Tho steamers were working however. The 'Tyser line steamer llarcro started work at 8 a.m., und finished discharging her Lvttelton cargo about i o'clock, when she sailed for Duncdin. The Himitangi discharged wool from tho Chatham Islands, and filled tin with produco for Wellington. After coaling she will sail'this evening. She. will load general cargo at Wellington for Lyttelton, and will subsequently shin a full cargo of produce hero for tho northern port. The Cygnet loaded a cargo of stores for Aharon and sailed (luring the afternoon. The first- of tho schooner fleet, the Morning Light, got away this morning loaded with stores and produce. She sailed with-a strons fair wind for Nelsou and \Vaitara. Very little difficulty was experienced in obtaining a crew for tho vcs« sol. Tho brigantino Aratapu is loading produce for Kaipara, ond tho scow Eunice, which finished discharging today, will load for Auckland. Tho Elista. Firth is still discharging, and tho Annie Hill and Lily will start tinloading to-raorrow. Tho ileet of ships in the harbour to-day was as follows:— No. 2 Wharf—Patceiia and Cygnet. No. 3 Wharf—-Kowhai and Himitangi.

No. 4 AYhttrf—Himutaka and Kiui. No. 5 Wharf—Cnnopus. No. G Wharf—ltemucra, Karamu, and Titasiia.

No. 7 Wharf—Marere and Corintliic. # Gladstone Pier—H.M.S. Pyramus and Storm, and tiie schooners Eliza Firth, •Aratapu, Eunice, Lily, and Annie Hill, No. 1 Breastwork—To Anavi. In tho t stream—Kaitankata, and Flora.

In order to mako more mom available at the- main wharves H.M.S. Pyramus was shifted this morning from No. 3 jetty to a berth at the Gladstone, Pier. The Union Company's steamer Wanaka, from Auckland, via Wellington, is due in tho morning to land sugar and genera] cargo. After being laid tip at Duncdin for nearly live weeks tho Huddart-Parkcr steamer Victoria, has been .recominissioued at Duncdin. She is duo at Lyttelton to-morrow, and will load cargo for Wellington. Tiie ferry steamer I'atccni; arrived from Wellington at ;U'.,|-3 n-.ra. after i'i passago of lo liours 40 minutes. She was delayed on tlio run down to Lyttelton by a southerly gale and head seas. Tho Patoena landed cargo during the after* noon, and also loaded a fairly largo quantity for Wellington.

Away from tho waterfront tho only event of importance in LyUelUm towas tho opening of tho hotels at 9 o'clock for the first time since Monday, November 24. Tho hotels will close at G ii.m. daily.

At the quarterly mooting of tlio Canterbury Chamber of Commerce today tho president, Mr. K, G. Stavc-ly, referred to strike matters in his address. Mr. Hill-Fisher moved and Mr, A. H, Turnbull seconded :"That this mooting of members of tlio Canterbury Chamber of Commerce expresses its appreciation of the conduct of thoso who ca'iuo readily forward to assist, the community generally in keeping open the port of Lyttelton at a tinio of industrial and commercial unrest, and it tenders thanks to the Government for tho prompt measures taken by them for the maintenance of low and order." The, motion was carried, and it was decided to forward copies to the I'ritoe Minister and Colonel Chali'ey.
