FARMER'S CONSTABULARY.
QUESTION IN THE HOUSE. Eeforo tho House of Representatives proceeded to ordinary business last night, Mr. G. W. Russell, member 'or Avon, asked tho I'rimo Minister whether ho was awaro that something 'a the nature of a defence force, other than tho ordinary Defence lorce of :ho country, was being formed at Aurklnnd, and whether he would see that outside defence forces of this' kind were not formed.
The Hon. W. F. Masscy (Primo Minister) said that the Government had not hoard anything official with regard to the proposed scheme, but whon ho had been in Auckland during tho last day or two, he had bc,eti informed that a register was being kept of those men now acting as special constables, who were willing to act again if called upon. That, he thought, was all that was in tho scheme. Nothing in the nature of armed constabulary was proposed.
