HEMP LIFTED AT FOXTON.
THE "MILL HAND" THREAT. (Bj Telegraph—Pr<w« Association.) FOXton, December 2. The local port was opened yesterday by the arrival of the Awaliou from Wellington. Foxton held the distinction up to yesterday of being ono of tho few ports in the Dominion not worked sinco tho strike. Groundless rumours had been circulated that if any attempt was made to open tho port three or four hundred flaxmill hands would be brought from Tokbma'ru to create trouble. The few wharf hands were very quiot, but did not turn to. Sub-Inspector Marsack and several constables were on the wharf. Tho Awaliou brought no inward cargo, but loaded hemp. Loading operations were carried out ex]>editiously, and the vessel left for Wellington this morning. Many wharf hands are anxious to turn, to, but are being intimidated. The Queen of the South and, the Wootton are expected towards the end of tho week.
