At tlio mooting of tho ' Groytown Borough Council on Monday evening last, on tho motion of Councillor Shanley (who in also president of the now Waterside Workers' Unionl, seconded by Councillor Webster, tho following resolution was carried:— "That it bo a recommendation of this council that the Government's attention should be directed to tho attitude adopted bv Mr. R. Fletcher, chairman of tho Wellington Harbour Board, since tho commencement of the waterside workers' strike; that tho feeling is gaining ground that when the present strike is declared off the men who have saved Iho position are likely to bo replaced by tho old waterside workers; and that wo arc of opinion that the present Arbitrationists should bo nllowcfl to retain their positions if they desire." Councillor Webster said that tho motion was a very mild one. "We all know," lie. said, "tho feeling through-' out the Dominion. We all know that the chairman is antagonistic to tho now union. Tho old Waterside Union .does not now exist, and the Government has bound itself to support,tho now union."
