PREVENTION OF CRUELTY.

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals met yosteiday. Mr. H. H. Webb presided. Inspector Seed reported that lie had had destroyed a horso which was unfit for work. The ease was a bad one, and at tho time ho came upon the animal it was-.being made to oart metal. Altogether five cases were reported bv the inspector. The committee approved of a change of office to Winder's Buildings, Manners Street. Tho following ruhscriplions were acknowledged:—Mr. G. M. Kobbell, £1 Is.; Singer Sewing.Machine Co., £1 Is.; Mr. E. W. Gotch. .01; "Xetiam," £1; Messrs. George and Kcrslev, 10s. fid.; Miss Rous-Martin, 10s.: Messrs. Hotter and Son, tho Equitable Building Society, Messrs. Bates and Lees, Mr E. W. Lowe, Messrs. Simincnds and Osborne, ss. each; Mr. Gray and two friends, 2s. (fcl. each; total, £G 15s. . A suggestion wan mado by Mr. Webb to alter the rules of the society so as to entitle subscribers of £1 to "become actiio members, subscribers of Zn to become life members, and to permit of honorary members being elected by tho general committee from amongst persons who have oviuccd marked sympathy for, and ha.-o materially assisted, tho cause at homo and abroad. . Honorary officers would bo activo members exoflicio. Tho proposal will bo brought up at a later date.
