MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
Vosterday's sitting of the Magistrate's Court was presided over bv Mr. W. 0. HiddeH, S.M.
.Four persons, two of them women, wore convicted for the first time of overindulgence in liquor, and were each fined 10s., in default <1S hours' imprisonment. MAN-O'-WAHSMAN-'S LAPSE. An able-bodied seaman, named Albert Edward liurgess, from H.M.S. Psyche, appealed to answer a charge of having used certain language in Courtenay 'Place on the night of December 1. He pleaded guilty. Inspector Hendrey said that some trouble occurred in a restaurant on Monday night, and that when the police arrived accused had his coat off and was offering to fight all those present, at the same time using certain language. Accused was ordered to be handed over to the naval authorities to he dealt with and left tho Court under escort from the warship. TWO COATS STOLEN. Daniel Patrick Cummings stole two overcoats on November 28. It was mentioned in Court that they were valued at £4, and were the property of one Harry Welch. Accused admitted his guilt, and, on tho application of Chief Detective Broberg, was remanded for sentence until. Thursday morning in order that his antecedents might be inquired into. CIVIL CASES. Michael M'Grath, 155., costs os.; sam.e v. Andrew Re-id, £2 Gs. 4d., costs 125.: George Doughty and Co. v. Louis Henrv Iloimslow, £11 13s. 9d., costs £1 10s. Gd.; same v. George Coleman, £53 155., costs £3 His. Gd.; Francis Jane Hone v. Henry Newman, 65., costs 7s.
J L'DGMENT SUMMONSES. Orders were made in tho following judgment summons cases, in each case tho default being fixed at seven days' imprisonment :—E. N. W. Hollowayto pay Frost and Frost £2 7s. Gd. by* December 1.6; Rowland Potts to* pay Thomas Shields, £2 3s. by December Hi, and (!. H. Stupples to pay C. Gamble and Son £1 by the same date.
