M. do Giers has declined to accept a verbal statement, and has requested a written explanation. He has also demanded tho dismissal of Aymi Bey, Prefect of Police, who is said to have been responsible for the deception. Thereupon tiio Grand Vizier furnished a written apology, and notified that Ayini liey would be degraded.
