In marked contrast to the improved weather 'conditions, w'hich graced tho opening of t'ho Exhibition \esterday, this morning's outlook was wet and gloomy. However, by the time the day's visitors commenced to arrive shortly after 10 a.m. the darkest clouds had broken and the outldok beeamo brighter. Nevertheless occasional showers occurred, making tho indoor poition of the Exhibition more popular. An official estimate of the attendance on the opening day gives a total of between, 18,000 and 1&,C00. Eight turnstiles in use admit by cash only, and shillings wore inserted by 11)701 persons. "With the addition of payments by 1013 children, tho cash receipts came up to £GOO. Apart from this, 'season ticket holders must be tai;eu into account. The number sold to dato is 4000—2000 gents', 1700 ladies', and 300 children's. In'addition, 1500 invited guests and singers presented complimentary tickots, as also did yiOO or more holders of stall assistants' tickets. Details are also available concerning the resorts w'hich were most frequented. Whilo naturally enough no check is kept of the numbers which pass through the doors of the -threo main Exhibition Buildings, it is possible in estimate the attendances at the various side attractions, such,as the aquarium, art gallery, etc., etc. Tho aquarium appears to have been the most popular yesterday, no fewer than 2COO visitors obtaining tickots. /Vltliought'lm ait gallery was open only for a' couplo of hours, its delightful contents attracted over 200 patrons. Tho electric lift giving access to• tho outlcok towers was used by 500 persons, and several thousands thronged about 'the grounds and "Wonderland." There were about 330 entries at the Exhibition flower show held to-day. Despite showery weather, tliero was a good attendance this afternoon, over 3000 people having passed through the turnstiles by 3 p.m. The guests to the Exhibition were entertained by the Mayor and City Council to-day, and were shown tho various sights of the city.
