oQUEENSLAND LIBEL ACTION; AFTERMATH OF THE ELECTIONS. By Triojraph—Press Association—CoDj-rislit Brisbane, November 29. Tlio verdict of the jury has .boon ({ire" in the ease in which the Hon. I'Vaiilt Dcnlmm (Premier of Queensland) and 'Messrs. Denham Bros.. produce merchants, claimed ;CIO,OOO (a sum (f £5000 in each case) from Senator derricks, Plaintiffs alleged that during the Federal election campaign, Senator Ferricks made defamatory statements regarding Messrs. Denham Bros.' dealings wit'i a customer. It- was also alleged that Senator Forrbk« said at the declaration of the polt that Government money had boon used to fight the Labour candidates. The jury awarded Mr. Denham £300, and also awarded Denham liros. £300. Stay of execution was granted to enable the defendants to appeal. Denham Bros, also sued the Warwick "Argus," miblislied at Warwick, for £10,000 damages, for libel, but tho, action has been discontinued, defendants publishing a special apology, and paying costs.
