In the annual report of the Royal Mint it is stated that at the annual trial of the Pyx at Goldsmith:;' Hall, the greatest variation from the legal standard in the fineness of an individual coin wa-3 0.45 per ICOO the remedy allowed by lay being two imrls per ICCO, and the greatest variation from the legal standard in the weight or an individual sovereign was 0.165 grain, the remedy being 0.2 grain. Of the 99 convictions in 1912 40 were for felony; 9 being for tho making of counterfeit, coin, 10 for the felonious possession of moulds and other implements used iu the manufacture of such coin, and 21 for uttering or possessing counterfeit toin after a previous conviction fur an offence under the Coinage Offcncca Act. 1651. In all, some 2266 pieces of counterfeit, coin were taken possession of by the police, against 3256 in 1910 and 1710 iu 1911.
