AISGILL TRAIN DISASTER.
BOARD OF TRADE REPORT. By Tekjrapn—Press Association—Copyrielii London, November 25. Reporting on tho Aisgill railway disaster, wbcro tho Aberdeen express overtook and telescoped tho Glasgow express ou tho Midland Railway, the collision being followed by fire, appalling suffering and loss of lifo, .Major Pringle, of tho Board of Trade, says that, the collision was duo to tho neglect of Caudle, tho driver of the second express, to observe the signals, and hia subsequent carelessness aiid lack of caution. Tho report adds that Whitley, the guard of tho first .train, ought to.have protected that train, and responsibility to a small extent must rest with him for disregarding the rule; also with Nicholson (driver of tho first train), and Donnelly (the fireman) for abetting him. The report recommends greater safeguards bv means of detonators, coloured flare lights, electrically-lighted car-riages,-steel undorframes with shockabsorbing buffers, and non-inflammablo timber work.
