| IX MAGISTRATE'S COURT, DEAR WORD TO CALL IN STREET. . more strike cases were heard in thi* Magistrate's Court yesterday. Xolson appeared on reiriand charged with having taken part in an unlawful assembly in Taranaki Street on November 4. Mr. P. J. o'Re<*a'n represented her. ° Inspector Hcralrcy stated that- last week Mrs. Nelson was fined £2 for having broken two windows in tho ■X a ' Tiger Hotel on the night of a striko disturbance there. The evidence given on that occasion was all that could now be tendered, and, as lio did not wish to see a woman punished twice for the one offence, ho would suggest tho withdrawal of tlie charge. The Court sanctioned this course.

Tho man -was charged with having tittered tho words with intent to provoko a. breach ef. the peace. A • plea of guilty was entered by Thompson. Mr. P. j. O'Regan appeared for him. Mr. O'Rcgan asked for leniency for his client-, who, ho said, had already been fourteen days in gaol. Tho words complained of were not directed at a special constable, but .at ' a fellowworker. A constable came along at the time, and. attempted to arrest Thompson, and trouble ensued. Inspector Hendrey said that a cpn,stable had found it. necessary to arrest Thompson becauso of his somewhat threatening manner. When the officer attempted to apprehend the man lie was thrown-to tho ground and received a rather bad handling from tlie crowdnot from the accuscd 1 . Thompson was fined £3 and ordered to pay costs. The default fixed was 14 days' imprisonment.
