TRAMWAYS SECRET BALLOT.
return to work to-day. The Tramways' Union las resolved In favour df returning to work, and the tramways will start with a full servico to-morrow morning. The men debated their position at considerable length this afternoon, and a secret bal» lot resulted in a majority of 60 (216 to 166) in favour of rescinding tho resolution to cease work when tho special police or free labourer appeared on the waterfront. Tho mooting was attended by 412 men out of 590. The ■position of the union was very exhaustively discussed, but without heat, and, on the motion to rescind tho former resolution being put, it was carried by 216 votes to 166, all who then remained in the room voting. The effect of this is that the men are ready to start whenever tho company is ready to give them work. The union will meet tomorrow afternoon to consider a proposal mado by tho Strike Committee, which in no way affects the decision already arrived at. "Work will be resumed immediately .1 can got coal." said Mr. J." J. Walklato, general manager of the Auckland Tramways Company, last night. "I do not Anticipate any difficulty in getting supplies, and I anticipate that a full service will be running on Wednesday morning. The men 'will be put on tomorrow to clean tho tracks and get things into running order. An effort will be. made to get 200 tons of coal ; into, the power house to start tho serried. ,
