CARPENTERS RESUMING TO-DAt TRANSPORT STRIKE "SOLID." (By Tdcgraph.—Pw*» Association.) Auckland, November 24, The following message has to-day been, sent to the other centres by tho strike officials in Auckland: —"Central Strike Committee advised local unions (except transport unions) to return to work and support tho (strilw financially. Tho transport striko is solid.' 1 At a hugely-attended meeting this .maw""? tlio Woteisido Workers' Union

expressed complete confidenco in the Central Strike Committee. A resolution to this effect was carried/it is said, with only dissontients, somo of whom opposed tho resolution through a misunderstanding. A big meeting of carpenters was held this morning, wnen it was decided to rotum to work to-morrow morning. The members present pledged thomselves, iwhilo tho strike lasted, to assist the oause of tho strikers by a ten per cent, levy on singlo men and fivo per cent, on married men. They also undertook to do nil in thoir power to porsuado tho main body of carpenters to adopt the same course.

9 It has beon explained! that in spite of tho permission given by the Central Strike Committee, a number of . carpenters will still refuse to tako up work ,until the whole disputo is sottled. : On behalf of tho\ Central' Strike Committee, Mr. T. Bloodworth explained that -the action taken., with regard 'to calling off of the genoral strike was in accordanco with tho powor vested in the Central Strilco Committee. Many unions when they camo on striko had placed thomselvos entirely in tho hands of the Strike- Committeo. Tho deoision arrived at yesterdw' released thorn from that obligation. The seamen, drivers, and waterside workers wero still on strike and would remain on strike. They were the transport workers. Provision had boon made for tho hotel and rostaurant workers to try to bring about satisfactory arrangements for tho resumption 1 of work, _ Tho furniture trade workers, in deciding to return to work, had donated £25 to tho strike funds. Tho bricklayers, however, had not regarded the intimation of tho Central Strike Committeo as a signal to work. They had definitely decided to sco the tiling through, and wore remarkably solid. The general labourers also had taken up tho sam-e attitudo. Tho brewery employees had refuse dto return to .work, but arrangements _ had been made for joint representation of tho brewery employees and hotel w'orkers to meet the Provincial Council of the licensed qmploycrs in conference. If, as a result of teh conference, a settlement was reached witli regard to tho hotel workers, thon the brewery employees would also return to work.
