A STATEMENT REFUTED.
MR. PAYNE, M.P., BOWLED OUT. In tho courso of his remarks at Newtown Park on Sunday afternoon, Mr. J. Payne, M.P., stated that tho Employers' Federation, in Auckland, had resolved "to starve tho peoplo into subjection," and that as a protest against such a decision, be it said in their honour, tho president and secretary of the Federation had resigned. This statement is given a fiat denial by Mr. W. Pryor, secretary to tho New Zealand Employers' Federation. He says that Mr. D. CJoldio (president) resigned his oflico for business and health reasons two months ago—before tho strike commenced, and Mr. E. A. Craig was appointed in his stead. Mr. Win. Grosvenor, the present secretary of tho Auckland Employers' Association, has acted for many years in that capacity, and still acts, and is also secretary of the Defence Committee. tie has not resigned, nor has ho given any intinvi. tion that ho intends to do so.
