SPLIT IN THE SEAMEN.
As indicated in the passages between Mr. Rclcher (secretary of the Dtmedin branch of the Seamen's Union) and Mr. W- '!'• Young (secretary of tlio Wellington branch), there is far from being that unanimity amongst tho seamen over tho striko that the leaders would havo tho public believe. Indeed it is freely stated that if a ballot wo re taken among the seamen employed on Domin-ion-registered steamers, tliefo would bo a preponderant vote in favour of resuming work. Tho Federation of Labour, however, desire net secret ballot.' There is, however, a- movement on foot which will no doubt show tho difference of opinion that exists, amongst iho seamen. Moreover many seamen resent certain) treatment accorded to Mr. Boleher, and hold that his counsel was sound'.
NEW UNION AFOOT. (By Telegraph.—Prc«B Association.) Dunedin, November 24. It is stated that a number of members of branches of tho Now Zealand Federated Seamen's Union have practically decided to form a new union with registration under tho Arbitration Act. So far, however, official confirmation of the statement is lacking.
