Amaury Talbot, District Commissioner in Southern Nigeria, in an interview, desoribos his exploration work in th© Eket district, The people- in that district, he says, aro the most bloodthirsty in Africa. Their customs and ceremonies liavo remained unchanged from tho days of ancient Egypt, and secret societies still offer up human sacrifices. One woman shoved him frag-ments-of charred bone, and declared that thoy were her brother's.
Later, tlio missionaries oomplained of tho maltreatment of school children by a society called "Ghosts, tho Destroyers." In one easo tho missionaries rescued a girl who was about to bo sacrificed. Tho head priest bad announced "Tho ghosts will eat to-day."
