A deputation consisting of four members of tlvo Western Hutt'Ratepayers' Association waited on tho council to discuss t'he advisability of widening Vic- ■ toria Street (Alicetown). and collecting and disposing of rubbish in that district. Ho suggested that tho council. should send a rubbish oart round tho district on'ce-a-fortniglit. . . In reply,.the Mayor Stated ;that tho: council wonld give the matters 'mentioned wery ciinsidoration. The question' of widoniiiK Victoria Street- had been con-! sidored by the council, but, owing to tlio fact that portion of tjio land was owned by Natives, tlwy could not give effect to the deputation's request just jet. The only way in which the council could deal wiin tho Natives was .to take the land under the Piiblio Works Act. In regard to the removal of rubbish, the Mayor stated 'that this matter would bo con.'siderexl by the council. Later the Mayor moved: "That tho] engineer prepare an estimate of tlio 'cost j ef widening Victoria Street, with a view to taking tho laud under t'ho Public l Works Act."

Tho motion was carried. Tho engineer was also instructed to r*o into the question qf removing the rubbish. A easo of uluckonpox in the borough was reported by the Wellington Hospital -and Charitable Aid Board. The report mentioned tiiat the usual precautions had been taken.—Received.. .
