Sir,—lt may be a useful suggestion to many housokeopers that by filling a 21b. treacle, honey or goldon syrup tan (only theso three kinds of tins should bo used as thoy aro leak-proof), wlion they are making thoir own jams, they would be really helping thoso white meii and women who aro carrying tlio Gospel of Christ through t'ho Islands of Melanesia. Change of food is of c-eurso absolutely necessary, and tlicy aVo mostly unable to make any jam for themselves. The jam should bo any of the firmer kinds, not jellies or very fluid, oft account of the great^heat;' and it piumld ho put into tho tins as hot as possible and tile lids hammered down, at once, and labeled Small and medium sized tins, sucll as cocoa, niU3tard, or in fact any under 21b., ure niiitable for packing sweets in, und may bo sent to mo at any time, or lel't at Messrs.'J.
