■ REDUCTION SOUGHT." The Onslow Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor (Mr. F. Holdsworth) presidium Councillors B. Lynneberg, J. C. Gardner, L. A. Browne, Colin Monro, R. A. Nicol, A. H. Hoby, ii. 0. Alderson, D. Monro, and C. Bouden were also present. Councillor Bowden moved: "(1) That the Wellington City Council be requested to favourably consider the question of reducing the water rato at present charged to Onslow; (2) that a reduction of 20 per ccnt. be submitted." In speaking to the motion, Councillor Bowden stated that, for some years, there has been considerable discontent .amongst ratepayers regarding the high water charges. The difficulty had been a hard one to rectify, and his (tho speaker's) solution was that they should ask for a roduction. Ho thought that the price was certainly too high. Tho motion was seconded by Councillor Gardner. : ' Councillor Lynneberg thought that the matter was inopportune just now. Ho considorcd that .'it would. be much I better to hold it uver until after tho strike, but he was, nevertheless, in favour of a reduction. • Still, he did not think that tho borough would got tho 25 per cent, reduction.. If the borough took any action just now they ,ran tho risk of having their water supply cut off. Councillor Bowden: The City Council has three reservoirs now I Continuing, Councillor Lynneberg said that he would vote in favour of the motion,- but he deemed it inadvisable to move in the. matter at present. He suggested that tho words: "25 per cent." in the motion should be made to read "2d. per thousand." Councillor Alderson thought that the matter should be held over until January or February. Councillor Gardner: "I think that, as it is really a time of depression, owing to the strike, we should hold this matter ovor until a more favourable time." Councillor Bowden replied that he was quite willing to accept Councillor , Lynneberg's amendment. The motion Was carried as amended, 1 and is to bo forwarded to tho City i Council at a favourable time.
