MR. HARPER AND THE TYPOGRAPHICAL MEETING.

Sir,—Mr. James Harper, president of tho Wcllliiu'.ton Typographical Union, tells the public in his letter m to-day s j ■ issuo that:—"Thero was no proposal 1 brought forward by 'Mr. Hiekey's snpr porters' nor by any other "member that '■ a ballot should bo taken on the ques- > tion whether the union should strike or • not." Such a statement is staggering. s AVhat has Mr. James Harper to say to * this? I enclose an original notice, a f copy of which'was sent to each and cvory > member of tho union:— j NOTICE. , Pass Round, Please. ' > WELLINGTON TYPOGRAPHICAL ; UNION. 1 EXTRAORDINARY NOTICE. : By direction of tho Board of \ Management tho hist business to lio considered by members at the meeting called to take place at tlio Oddfellows' Hall, on Saturday 1 evening, November 15, 1S)13, at 7.30 '■> o'clock, will bo a telegram from Mr. ' P. Hickcy, secretary of the Federation of Labour, calling upon mem- ' bors of the above-named union to r refuse, to work "till armed scabs leave tho city." 3 Every member should attend punctually at the. hour stated. . 5 ' J. W. E. M'DOUGALL, 3 Secretary, 3 Wellington Typographical Union, 1 November'l3, 1913. J The meeting was duly held. The balV lot was taken. The "Red Fed gang's" 1 impudent proposal was turned : clown by v an overwhelming majority, and every t member of the union who w,as present - knows how preposterously misleading rl. Mr. Harper's letter is. . !- The "Rod Fed. gang," having ruined a themselves by their excesses, now want o to drag down every decent, honest d union into tho mud pools and blood pools if in which they have wallowed. With the d assistance of an unnaturaliscd, frenzied t Yankee Doodler they are using every la method possible to inflame tho ignorant o workors and corrupt tho decent unions. Their tyranny cannot be tolerated. t- When ono finds tho loaders of what d ought to be a great movement resorting

to lies and half truths in order'to conceal the evidence, of their own colossal blunders, it is about time that all decent unionists declared for the cause of their wives and children. Am I to starve my wife and children in order to feed imported carrion who feed upon the corpses' of dcath-striekifii industrialists? Not much, if doing this is •what the "Bed Fed. gang' 7 calls "loyalty," then the word "loyalty" lias lost its meaning. It is just about time, that hqne.st workers opened their cyes._ Give ns the secret ballot and no intimidation. Wo shall settle the strike in one act, but we must got rid of the "Labour boodlers" and those who would assist them.—l am, etc., TITO. —
