: * THE POSTAL PACKET. . CHARGE AGAINST WOMAN. ■ At the Magistrate's Court yesterday, before Mr. W. G. Itidtfcll, S.M., Elzio Reynolds was charged with having opened a postal picket addressed to Miss L. Onllmvay, G.P.Q., Wellington. Leoiiard Stanley Fowkr, a postal clerk, deposed that accused called at the G.P.O. and presented aft order directing the clerk to hand her any letters addressed to Miss Louie GaUowfly, From an examination of the letter uow it. appeared that it had Tjeeii cither steamed . open or opened'frith a pencil. The ease was then adjourned till November 26, .when further evidence is to bo tendered. Mr. J. F. W. Dickson appeared for the defendant. .ELUSIVE DEFENDANT. James Henderson. Thomson, was remanded to appear at Auckland on Kovembcr 26 to 'answer a charge that he was idle and disorderly, in that ha had insufficient lawful means of support, . Chief-Detective Broberg stated that Thomson was wanted in Auckland, but departed to lVilmerstou North. Thero ho .was arrested and. takcn to Auckland, where ho was remanded oil bail. Ho broke bail, and when rearrested in' Wellington was passing under a fictitious j name. Mr. H. F. O'Leary, defendant's counsel, did not ask for bail. He said that Thomson could give a good explanation of his movements. T'ho chargo was a rather extraordinary one as th& accused had a fair sum of money. COUNTS AGAINST CLERK. Alfred Edward Tomlinson, charged with having failed to account for £50 3s. belonging to Iris employers:, Messrs. Golliu aiid Co., Ltd., with having stolen the same sffiouiit, with having set fire to books and papers in Messrs. Gollin and Oo.'s building, and. with jmving stolen M 10s, belonging to the Imperial Oil Co., Ltd., was re* Bianded till this afternoon. OTHER CASES. : 'For insobriety, Florence M'Anally was sent to the Pakatoa Inebriates' Institute for one year. George Millar was remanded to appear at Te Kuiti to-day. on a charge of haying supplied liquor to a Native. Albert Gibbons was further remanded tilt November 27 on a charge of his having le.fi New Zealand after a summons had been served on Mm.
