SMALL TRADERS FEEL THE , PINCH. An' crisis like the present cannot but affect every financial institution, either directly or '■ indirectly. One bank manager, who was consulted yesterday, stated that his institution was certainly feeling the effect of the strike. More particularly was this so in regard to small traders, whose receipts had -dropped a- good 'deal during the past fortnight^'whilst their-..obliga-tions were as great as usual. The requests for a little extra accommodation were abnormal, and were being leniently considered in the case of well-* known clients. The position would not be serious if the strike was soon settled. Indeed, trade was already beginning to pick up a little again owing to the opening of the port, and the sounder assurance given ,by the measures taken by the authorities to keep it open. !,
