A PROTEST TURNED DOWN.
. (Br Telegraph.—Press Association.! ' Chrlstchurch, Novembcr.l7, A largo strike deputation waited on the City Council to-night and urged that the council should protest ap.iinst the proposed appointment of spccial constables. A motion in this direction was, after a lons discussion, rejected, only four Graham members of the council voting, for it. The council, however, decided to ask tlio Mayor to call a public meeting of representative citizens to discuss the present industrial crisis with a view to making representations to the Government to pass' legislation to settle the trouble.
