About sixty members of tho Hawko's Bay branch of the Post and Telegraph pincers' Association mot here this evening, and passed the following, resolutions:— (1) That this branch, having fully considered the crisis between- the conference delegates and the .Commissioners, unanimously resolve that the protest embodied in the alleged impeachment resolutions endorsed by this branch, of the Post and Telegraph Association, and dissatisfaction permeates the service -as a result thereof. (2) That the branch is_ of opinion that had tfiie delegation which waited on the Commissioners altered or withdrawn tho resolution, which was the product of the mature consideration of the conference, they would have been guilty of betraying their trust, and, in view- of the circumstances, desire to express its high appreciation of the stand taken by tho president and delegation in' refusing to withdraw the contentious preamble. (3) That this branch assures the president and executive of their continued and unabated loyalty and its confidence in their ability to guide tho destinies of the association in this grave and critical moment. . ." > Clsborne, November 17. The discontent among the Post and Telegraph employee&.wasdiscussed at a large meeting of the Gisborno branch of tho P. and T. Officors' Association to-night, and a resolution was passed affirming the action of tho conference of delegates in refusing to withdraw the first of their resolutions placed before the Commissioners, and deploring tho fact that the Commissioners refused to hear tho conference of dolegates, which represented 85 per cent, of the officers of tho P. and T. Department. _ Tho resolution concluded by placing on record "a strong" protest against the too-high-handed action of the Commissioners in refusing, to hear tho delegation."
COMPENSATION. Christchurch, November 17. . Tho Arbitration Court to-day 'granted Ellen Poppolwell £175 compensation, and also payment of funeral oxponses in consideration of the death of her son, who was killed at Mina in tho sorvico of tfio Railway Department, ' MINERS' WAGES. Reefton, November 17. The Arbitration Court award generally gave all classes of work in the minos Is. per diem moro. In the lowerpaid classes tho general increase was Is. 6d. At a Miners' Union meeting yesterday the award was considered satisfactory. Tho ,increases will not affect tho mines So much as seems at first sight, since many of the classes raised have ; been already getting an advanco on tlio old award rates. The meeting voted £75 to tho Striko Committee at Westport, and a similar sum t'i Greymouth. A hopeful feeling now pievails in Reefton as to tho futuro. FRAUD ON TOTALISATOR. Christchurch, November 17. A number of spurious sovereigns wero taken by the totalisator employees at Riccarton last week. Tho coins reached the Union Bank, which has warned the public and police. It is assumed that the counterfeits were brought from Australia. Tlioy appear fairly good imitations.
