FATAL ERROR.

POISON GIVEN IN MISTAKE. , (By Telegraph;—l'ress Association.) { Dunedin, November 17. An unfortunate tragedy occurred at Belloknowes this afternoon, when Robert Chalmers, formerly a resident of Waitara, who had retired from active pursuits and was living at 53 Preston Orescent, was accidentally poisoned. Mr. Chalmers was suffering from influenza, and, at midday, his wifo went to give him sonio influenza mixture. Mrs. Chalmers, however; suffers from extremely defective eyesight, and, unfortunately, gave her husband a dose of something which had been kept in the house for her grand-children when they had beon suffering . from whooping cough. Mr. Chalmers at once became unconscious, and although Dr. Evans was immediately callcd in and tried every means to bring him round he died about 2 p.m. Deceased was 79 years of age..
