SUPREME COURT SESSIONS.
MAYFIELD MURDER CASE; TRUE BILL AGAINST BIDDLE. (Br TelerrsLDh—Frees Association.) Christchurch, November 17. The criminal sessions of the Supreme Court opened to-day, before Mr. Justice Denniston. Tho calendar contains eight indictments, involving nine individuals. His Honour, in his charge to the Grand Jury, said a prima facie caso of murder against Biddlo was dear. There was his admission that lie struck the blows. Tho case should give tho Grand Jury no trouble. True bills were found in the following cases: —Frederick Armitage, theft;Joluu M'Cluskey, indecent assault on a young girl; William Charles Merrett and Sydney William Arthur, theft; George Miles, theft; "NVilliam ITiillip Edgar, two counts, of breaking and entering, theft, and receiving-; Ernest Bobson, theft; Alfred Mortfam Biddle, murder. Walter Herbert Bassett appeared for sentence for bigamy, and was sentenced to one year's lmprisonmait, A middle-aged man named John M'Cluskey was convicted of indecent assault on a child, and was sentenced to five gears' imprisonment and declared an habitual criminal. Accused possessed a very bad record. Frederick Armitage, charged with stealing a _bi> cycle, was sentenced to two years' imprisonment. AUCKLAND'S SEVERE LIST. Auckland, November 17. Addressing the Grand Jury at the opening of tho Supremo Court this morning, Mr. Justice Edwards remarked that of' twenty-four bills one-third were for disgusting offences against person, one charge of murder, and one of manslaughter. DIVORCE CASE. Auckland, November 17. In the Supremo Court- a decree nisi was granted in tlie case J. Hanrison against Queer, iss Wilhelmina Harrison, on the ground of misconduct, the co-respondent being Harry E. Myers. Petitioner resides at Mafcierc. He lived with his wife' far three years at Eltham. MOTOR-CYCLE COLLISION. Dunedin, November 17. At the Supreme Court to-day Henry Henderson, a commercial traveller, of Anderson Bay, claimed from Georgo Leslie, farmer, of Gleriledi, £501 for damages sustained through two motorcycles colliding. After the case had been partly heard, aft agreement was arrived at to tho effect that judgment be given for the plaintiff for £300 with costs.
