PRICE OF BREAD.
RISE TO FO ORI'ENCE A LOAF. was inevitable that with tho port closed for a fortnight tho price of
flour, and its chief product, bread,,must become enhanced. With short stocks and an eager demand, ilio flour rose in \\ elluigton from £10 2s. 6d. to £13 Ills. per ton (delivered into store). As many or tho bakers Jiavo been forced to buy at tdio increased price, a decision has been come to by tho Wellington blaster Bakers' Association to raise tho' price of the 21b. loaf from 3}d. to <ld. lrom to-day. There are some bakers •who havo_ fair stocks, bought at the normal price, ivlio will reap tho benefit ot tho rise, but who niay later have to I'a-y an enhanced prico for flour, which will more than last over tho term of the strike.
With bread oil 'tho rise, there will probably be a start made to unload flour and to import more from Timaru. As both rimaru and Wellington are now open ports, the only difficulty is,-to get a steamer to call for a load. 'Phis the Ennordale will probably do this week when she unloads her cargo of Auckland sugar here and at Timaru.
