£1000 A YEAR FOR CAPTAINS OF LINERS.

The Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company has adopted a new scale of pay for its officers, The rates will bo as follow:— Captains of mail boats, £1000 per annum. Captains of intermediate steamers, £600 to £900. ' Chief officers, £18 to £25 per month. Second officers, £14 to £17 per niontn. Third officers, £12 10s. to £13 10s. per month. Junior officers, £8 per month. Officers will receive tteeo weeks' holiday yearly, and the company will introduce an elaborate pension scheme,
