The meeting decided to proceed with the erection of a Jetty and to provide a lifeboat at a, total cost of £200. Already £50 has boen raised, and a committee of townspeople, is guaranteeing the.-remainder. Tho committee includes Messrs. J. Mounsey, E. Hdlbeii, J. Bctt, "W. Bailoy, and C. Dahl. Scout matters hore are progressing.' The local corps, which was .recently formed, is working with energy on the first tests, and is now qualifying fast for second class badges. A concert will shortly be hold! to raise fiind-i for leas-. ing tho club room. Intimation has been received from the Chief Scout that it is proposed to subdivide Wellington Province into three districts, with headquarters at Wellington, Palmerston, s end Wanganui. Nash) asked the Auckland Exhibition authorities to permit the Royal Artillery Band, , who arrive in Wellington about November 28, to break their journey at Palmerston, in order to give a performance on the showgrounds for tho benefit of the Hospital. The Auckland authorities refused the request, stating that/ the heavy expense incurred in connection with the band necessitated all benefits going* towards liabilities. Owing to the strike it was inadvisable to incur further engagements for the band before their arrival at Auckland. The Mayor, however, hopes to secure the band possibly on their return, after the .conclusion of the exhibition. • ! MASTERTON. A short sitting of tho Ikaroa , Native Land Court was held hero yesterday, when the question of' the disposal of certain lands at Tβ Ore Ore was dealt with. ■ , ' ' The Mastorton Homing Pigeon Club flew an old birds' race from. Auckland yesterday. The winning bird—Mr. G. <rpember's King Dick —occupied 9 hours 33 minutes in the journey. The annual meeting of the Masterton Ladies' Swimming Club is to be held ■'• oh Monday. In the annual report it-is : stated that the position, as disclosed by the; balance-sheet,! is very satisfac--V tory. It is claimed that_ the club now holds a loading position amongst the ladies'..swimming, clubs in the Dominion. .Mr. Walter Scott, who has been on the staff of the Masterton Borough Council for about nine years, has ac- ' cepted a similar position with the Gisborne Borough 'Council, and left for the northern township yesterday. ' ' At a special meeting of the Masterton Borough Council last night it was decided, in view of the disturbance of trade caused by the strike, to abandon tho proposal to take a poll on the water supply loan question in the meantime ■A. W.
