TO COPE WITH TRAM STRIKES.
ALTERATIONS IN LAW SUGGESTED. Tramway strikes have been considered by the committee which was set up by tho Legislative Council to consider ttie Tramways Amendment Bill after it had; passed the House of Representatives. The committee has made some important alterations to the Bill as raeiitioited elsewhere. A very drastic provision is contained in si- now clause—No. 8— covering strikes. It is provided that tho Governor-in-Coiineil may by proclamation in tho .Gassette vuspend at I any time, in respect oi' any tramway, the operation of tlw whole or any of the provisions of Suctions 2 and 11 of tho Tramways Amendment' Act?, 1910; may suspend any regulations marlo under that Act or any of its provisions or any rules or by-laws inado by any local authority. The sections of tho original Act specially referred to are those dealing with tho licensing of electric car drivers, etc., so that the suspension of theso and other provisions dealing with labour would enable a striko to bo coped with more effectively than at present by tho authority concerned. When tho necessity for tho suspension, has passed away, tho Gorornor-in-Comtcil may revoko the proclamation,
