NEW BILL AS AMENDED.
. The Native Land Laws Amendment Bill was, reported' back to the House with-amendments yesterday by the Native' Affairs Committee. '

Several clauses of the Bill have been amended,: provision is'made for the i temporary transfer of judges from one .. district to.another in the case'iof accumulations of wtffk and for "safeguards Mn tho/attestation of the wills' of Na(fcives. ' ';. ' '/ r- ■. In cases where tho; successors of an f interest in Native lands desiro to havo i these interests partitioned, and the relative interests are too Biriall to justify . partition, a majority of the successors (representing not less than one-half of {the value of the interests may apply in the Maori Land. Board to effect a sale, or lease the interest and apportion the proceeds. In cases in which mortgagees acquire lands by reason of mortgages they may hold the land without being required to make the declaration as to other lands held, by them. They may . hold the title for .my period, but it may not bo registered until it is transferred.. This will bring tho Nativo land into lino with ordinary. Land- Act. Schemes of carried out by Crown Lands Board on behalf of' the Native Land ..Board shall'bo first approved by the 'President of the latter boards. The Bill as introduced provided for tenants to borrow money from State Loan Departments..... An important (amendment has been, made whereby (with the consent of the Governor-in- •, .Council a. tenant may raise money by mortgaging his interest in a lease, provided protection is assured to tho mortgagees to the extent of his interests in •the improvements at tho expiry of thoir leases., ■ ■
The Bill as brought down provided -that Natives could sell their individual Interests in cortain trust lands to the State. This clause lias been amended to exclude such lands as are fanned by ihe Natives themselves under corporfcted committees. All ' these sales shall he voluntary. ' i • . Provision is also made for a re--arrangement 'of boundaries between : Native and European lands, for the of convenience and economy in fencing.' \
