THE £2500 WITHIN SIGHT, Same months ago the executive of tho Bays' Institute set- itself tho task o£ raising tho sum of £-2300 to enable it to proceed with the comprehensive building scheme which it has in viciv on the bltick of land immediately to the ' south of the Basin Reserve that was presented to the Institute some three years ago by its patfoii, Mrs. S. A. Rhodes, Sinco then tho goal was to steadily work together until tho new building could do erected free of •anything''in the way of a mortgage, and, further, that there would bo sufficient funds -available to ensure, under efficient management, the stability of the Institute in its new quarters. It. is pleasant- to lenrn from tho president (Mr. George Troup) that tho goal is almost won. Tho latest and greatest effort has been the fine Historical IVeant, held at Newtown Park, and th(Tinstitute Bazaar at the Town Hall which followed. These two events, thanka to a largo body of - assistants, realised a profit of about £1800. Sinco then other donations of various amounts have been received, until the £2000 has almost been raised. When that is dene tho Institute will'be in a position to claim the £500 that Mrs. Rhodes offered tho Institute if the sum of £2000 were raised, Skoteh plans of tho new Institute, which provides large and comfortable •quarters, a fine meeting hall, and large tepid swimming bath, have already been prepared by Mr. Troup, and early in the New Year tenders will he called for the orection of tho building.
