Tho Hutt County Council yesterday put oil record its appreciation of the public services of tho lato Captain James Taylor, of Tawa Flat, and decided to send a letter of sympathy to Mrs. Taylor and family. The resolution was moved by the chairman (Councillor Galloway) and seconded by Councillor Wakebani. Captain Taylor was a memI'.or of the original Hutt County Council of 18-37.

A Tress Association message states that the death occurred late on Monday night.of Mr. Bark] Crowe, Mayor of Paliiatua, in his sixtieth year. Mr. Crctte had been ill for a considerable time.. Deceased was a pioneer settler, arriving here over 31 years ago. He served nine terms as Mayor, and was frequently returned unopposed. Mr. Crew© was a very successful business niiin, and had valuable interests in the town. At various periods ho was con* lieoted with many institutions and local bodies, including the old Pahiatua Road Board, Town Board, County Council, Hospital Committee, Wairarapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Committee. He was also a Justice of tho Peace, and was very prominent in the Malturi water-power scheme.. Deceased was highly respected., He leaves a widow .-iiirt one son. Mr. J. D. C. Crewe, wlio is a member of tho Borough Council.
