The Blenhein maro Sinapis won the. Cup very com fortably and this despite the fact tha she had only landed off the boat a fev hours previously. Her victory. was tin easiest of recent years, and. this prove; how unlucky she was to miss last year As was anticipated, only four run ners faced the barrier in the Sprm; Hurdles. Peary was well supported am ho won in nice style, but it looked a if the finish might have been mucl closer had not Coronetted ran down tin last fence. Kilmeny failed to stay tin distance and Umeraboy was outclassed Birkful and Stevedore were evenl; backed for the Spring Plate. ' The ficli ivas reduced to five runners; Stevedori jumped oiit in front and'lead the wholi way," though v for sis furlongs'; he wa; closely attended 7 by Birkful and Sun bird. A bump then, sent Birkful back but he came again, and had Stevedori loing his very best over the last fur long. Banksia, who gave _ the fieli several lengths' start, was just ahea< )f Sunbird. The winner has come 01 i lot since "Wanganui and Dunedin. Tin race was very fast, considering that thi joing was dead. Li loitia appeared to be on the light side fhile Undecided bore an opposite ap learance. .Thrax showed signs of hav ng done a lot of- work, but Quarantint lid not look ready. Although she onl; anded at Riccartan at 11 a.m., Sinapii ooked very well and gained man; riends after an excellent preliminary i.t the first attempt, Starter Piper go; hem off well, and Bon Reve burnetii itely started pulling, and hit tin itraight first, but ho was soon sup ilanted by Sinapis, while "Undecided wai lulling hard, on the outside.
