Literature is wanted for tlio special constables at Mount Cook. Many of tho men are left at tho barracks d-ur-ins; the day with little to attend to other than grooming and feeding tlwir horses and doing a little fatigue .duty, and tho time Jiangs heavy on their hands. Tho best form of literature, under the circumstances are _ sixpenny editions of novels and magazines. All such books and "mags" will bo welcomed at Buckle Street. A suggestion worthy of adoption by the ladies of the city is that presents of fruit-, cigarettes, anil other dilectables finding their way to the various- depots of tho specials in Buckle Street, Government Buildings, and the wharf-—'would, be hailed with delight. Many flf our country cousins are unable to- find tho time to_ get into the city in quest of these comforts.
