SCENES ON THE QUEEN'S WHARF. A large number of passengers, estimated at. over 600, left Wellington - for kyttelton by tho Maunganui last evening. Tlio vossnl's complement was swelled on account of tie-re being no passenger steamer from Wellington to Lyttelton on Thursday evening, and consequently tho passengers who would have gm<s South by tho Maori had to wait for the Maunganui. For some tirno before tho Maunganui left last evening a constant stream of cabs, expresses, aiid passengers could bo seen making tlieir Way to tlio wharf. At- tie bottom of tho gangway & crowd laden with baggage., .etc., were jostling each other in their endeavours to get on board: and Mr. J. N. Greenland (purser) and his assistants were kept very busy. Tho rush increased with the arrival of passengers who had come into town by train. All was bustle and anxious faces wore to bo seen, Tlie. general questions were: "Can wo get aboard?" "Is tlio steamer going?" "Is she full?" and the lib.' As tlie big steamer drew away from We wharf' at 7.30 p.m. her decks wore black wit'h people. From well forward to right aft large numbers of passengers leaned out- over the rails, or walked about on' deck. The usual crowd of' Spectators on tlio wharf, however, was absent. aiid! wlien tlio Mauugamii had got out' into j tlio stream .only tlie officials of the Harbour Hoard and Union Company w<;re. left on the scene..
