Mr. John Roberts, C.M.G., of Dunedin, was one of the speakers at a dinner given after the Ettriek and Yarrow Show a few days aeo f when ho made an interesting speech <n the position of land-owners and farmers in New Zealand. Tlie Countess of Hivrdwicko (formerly Miss Russell, of Auckland) is at present in North Wales. Tlie staff dinner of the New Zealand Government Offices in London was held on Friday night, at Victoria Mansions, Victoria Street.

Mr. E. C. Brace MSdlae, of Wellington, who lias been staying at tho Ivan-' hoo Hotel while in London, returned to New Zealand last week. Dr. Wohlmaan, the Now Zealand Government balneologist, Mrs, Wohk mann, their child, and Miss Molly Wohlmann left London on Monday to join the Osterley at Toulon, oa their return to New Zealand. The Hon. Thomas Mackenzie, High Commissioner for New Zealand, has been spending a few days with Lord Strathcona at the" latter's place in Scotland. Soveral statesmen were among the guests, including His Excellency Dr. Page, the United States Ambassador to St. James's.

Mr. Tliomas Grange, of Waiparo Bay, has toured Paris, Brussels, Ireland, and Scotland, and is now in London. Mr. and Mrs. R. Staples-Browne held a shooting party at. Bampton, in Oxfordshire, last week.' Mr. Sydney H. Bailey, of Wanganui, who is at present in England, ftnd staying at Ainsdale, leaves on October 14. The Rev. N. Turner, of Auckland, intends spending at least eight months on tliis sido of. tho world before returning to New Zealand. A short story, entitled. "An Old Occupation." by Miss Constance Clyde, of D.unedin, appears in "Woman at Home" for October. Mr. Henry Collins, of New Zealand, was one of the delegates and speakers at the anniual conference of the National Brotherhood Council, just concluded at Birmingham. New Zealand Druids -will be interested to learn that Brother Moss, who has acted foT several years as treasurer to the Loyal Volunteer Lodge at Sheffield, sailed for New Zealand last week by the Remuera.

Nurse A. H. Holford s of Dunedin, who is on leave, and has been in London, for some time, left on Saturday for a fow weeks' trip to Scotland. Nwse Tombe, who came oyer with her, has gone to frends in Belfast. Mr. A. J. Watson, fortnerly of Wellington, is at present in London with Mrs. Watson, and staying at the Grosvenor Hotel. They extensively, toured the Continent before they arrived in England. Miss Edith Comer, of Christchurch, has-just returned to London after a tour of Scotland. This week she goes to Devonshire, and will probably spend Christmas in London, visiting several cathedral towns during the interval. She leaves on her, return on January 2.

Mr. W. B. Soandrett, .T.P., Mayor of .Invorcargill, is visiting Liverpool, and gave an 1 interesting interview to the representative of the Liverpool "Courier" a few days ago 011 female franchise, the compulsorv conciliation hoards, and various other matters of interest in Now Zealand. Mr. Scandrett is accompanied by his wifo and daughter. Mr. N. P. Manson, of Wangamu, who is accompanied by his brother, his son, Mr. Aleo. Manson, and his two daughters, arrived in tliis country, via, America, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, and the Netherlands. Lnst week they were in the Highlands. Tfcev left London this week for France and Italy, and embark from Naples for New Zealand on October 8.
