HAPUKA, AHOY!
FOOD FOB, THE STRIKERS. An interesting sight Was seen on the landing stage at the foot of tho Glasgow Wharf at 10 o'clock yesterday morning. The Italian fishermen from tho eastern'side of the liarbouf had presented the strikers witlf a catch of hapuka.' There were 260 fish in all, averaging between 301b. and 401b. ea-cli in weight, the wholesale price of which would in a lively market havo been about £40. These Were laid out in neat rows, which gradually disappeared under the hands of half a dozen strike men, who cut them up into 10lb. pieces, and doled them out to strikers" wives. "How many children have you got?" was about the only question askad after Mr. Bruce, assistant secretary of 'the Waterside Workers' Union, had recognised them. "Five!" said one man. "Hero you arc—hand up that tail!" and the man was presented with about 151b. of fish. "You—you're a single man, ain't you ?" "Yes!" "Nono left for single men —havo to look after tho married ones." Ono woman who owned to a large family, wa3 given a whole fish, under tho weight of which she could hardly walk. The Harbour Board men helped str3cors by producing paper* in' which the finny spoil was cleanly wrapped.
