The news that negotiations had been broken olf was communicated by the following telegram from' Wellington:—"Conference abortive. Employers insist on registration under tho Arbitration Act. -Tho light now on." The following resolution was carried unanimouslyWe, the - members _of the Dunedin Waterside Workers' Union heartily endorse tho proposals submitted by tho executive of the United Federation for a settlement. Seeing that tho conference has proved abortive, we have unanimously decided to fight the issue to a finish." A further resolution, was tarried that, in the event of free labour being employed in Dunedin, tho Dunedin' Waterside Workers' Union pledge themselves to bring a boycott strenuously to bear on any hotel or boardinghouses harbouring or sheltering free labour." Tho Strike Committee has Appointed about 90 pickets, who patrol iii detachments of ten. The reason why so many were appointed was partly to" keep all the men in touch with tho executive, so that, if a meeting is desired at anv moment to consider important telegrams, a sufficiently representative gathering is assured.
