FACING THE MAGISTRATE.
TWO MEN IN COURT. BAIL REFUSED IN EACH CASE. As the result of the affray in Taranaki Street on Tuesday night, two men appeared before Mr. W. G. Riddcll at the Magistrate's Court yesterday morning.
Robert Hill was charged with being a member of an unlawful assembly, and also with assaulting Frederick Longbottom, a police constable, while in the execution of his duty. Accused pleaaed
not guilty, and was remanded to Novcmbor 12.
Archibald Campbell was also charged with being a member of an unlawful assembly, and also with being an idle and disorderly person, in that he was found by night armed with a bludgeon. Accused entered a plea of not guilty, and was similarly remanded to November 12. '
Both accused made application for bail. "Not in tho present circumstances," answered his Worship. "You should know tho law, and 'you have already been warned against frequenting, and congregating in, tho streets during the present trouble."
