PALMERSTON SUPPLIES.

The strike is creating far moro interest and anxiety hero than Wellington people imagine, The chief effect of the disturbance on this town, at present is a limitation of somo supplies. Sugar is tho chiof of tho important table com* modifies which is likely to run out. Bread, it seems, can bo inade for somo time to como, as it doos not appear that a shortage of flour will arise immediately. In fact, sixty tons of flour is reported to'have boon sent to Wellington a few days ago to replenish the city stocks. Coal is fairly plentiful. The gas supply is not likely to fail un-' less the striko is extended over aperiod of several months. At tho showground, where the big annual summer show is being held, the- industrial upheaval is the chief topic. Meetings of groups of employers are being hold, but in some instances tho results are not being mado known. Among those who met to-day wero tho flaxmillers. A meeting of dairy farmers is reported elsowhero ; . : The Licensed Victuallers' Association is to meet for tho purpose of considering tho position.
