MRS. HAZZARD'S APPEAL REJECTED. By Telegraph—Prosa Association—Copyright Vancouver, November 4. Mrs. Hazzard', the "starvation doctor," found guilty of tho manslaughter of Miss Olaire Williamson, an Australian, lost her final appeal in the Washington State Courts, and has been committed to gaol for an indeterminato sentence, ranging from two to twenty years. ' ■ ■ ■ Mrs. Hazzard's attorneys refuse to state whether an- appeal will be made to the United States Supreme Court.
Miss Ciaire Williamson died last year, an<l her sister Dorothy had a narrow escape after undergoing treatment by Mrs. Linda Burfield Hazzard 1 , practising as a physician in Seattle, Washington. Mrs. Hazzard's speciality was fasting for the cure of diseases. The giris were wealthy Victorians. Tliey were treated for two months in Seattle, and then transferred to an isolated retreat in the woods at Olalla Washington, where tho treatment was continued until Miss Claire died on Mav 11, 1911. Miss Dorothy was reduced in weight to 421b., when an old nurse of tho family named Mies Margaret Conway arrived from Australia and took dhargo of lier. Dorotliy' stated that she and her sister had repeatedly bogged for food. Mrs. Hazzard claimed that (had pleaded with her to take her to Olalla. She knew tho girl would not lire long, h-ut thought tho Test and quiet might prolong her days.
