Four days'' further leavo of absenco from his legislative duties wore granted to the Hon. Jas. Allen yesterday, on account of illness.
The Duuedin Bar on Monday, through Mr. Hosking, K.C., president of the Otago Law Society, congratulated Sir Joshua Williams on his appointment to tho Privy Council. His Honour, replying, said' he would remain in Otugo till tho end of tho year. Ho stressed tho necessity for cordial relations between Bench and Bar, saying that without it thero could not be proper administration of justico.
Mr. J. Stewart, of the Dunodin University, has been appointed to succeed Mr, James Spottisweode. as pastor of the Cambridge Baptist Church.'
Senator J. H. Keating, of Launceston, is visiting Auckland, accompanied by Mrs. ICeatin, having arrived from Sydney by'tho Maheno. Senator Keating has been a representative, of Tasmania in tho Federal Parliament sinco tho constitution of the Commonwealth, and from 1005 to 1908 ho was a member of tho Deakin Ministry in various positions, finally as Minister for Homo Affairs. Ho is making a holiday tour for the benefit of his health, and will visit tiie Islands.
Mr. O. H. Dttloy, M.A. and M.Sc., tho first assistant master of tho Waitaki Boys' High School, has received tlio appointment of first assistant at the Presbyterian Ladies' Collego in Melbourne.
