The Wanganui Borough Council has resolved to support the proposals of tho hoston Borough Council for legislation enabling local bodies to run picture shows, and also to support tho Thames Boroujh Council for an amendment of the Slaughtering Act compelling swine to bo slaughtered in licensed abattoirs. Owing to tho poor ■ patronage of the public oil Sundays and tho damago done by romping children tho Wanganui Museum trustees have decided to keep tlio institution closed o.n Sundays in future. A badly needed municipal work, viz., tho emergency water reservoir and filter bed at Westmere, is nearly completed. . It is several years since it was first decided that it was necessary, and it has at times been tho subject of warm controversy, and has been subjected to several delays. Tho present borough engineer (Mr. N. C. Staveley) has, howover, pushed matters ahead very successfully, and it is expected that tho work will bs finally completed in about a fortnight.
