TO OPEN AUCKLAND PORT.
FORCES ORGANISED. HEAVY CONTINGENTS MOVING. (By TelearaDh—Prcaa iiaoolaUoa.) ■ Auckland, November 4. A telegram calling for tho fullest possible strength of tho force of Waikato farmers now assembled in Hamilt/jsn to come to Auckland to-night was sent out during the forenoon and it is expected that special trains will bring them and their mounts to the city without delay. Not only have farmers been organising south' of Auckland, but information is also to hand that arrangements 1 are being made in Whanparei, and tho Northern Wairoa districts to send men and mounts for servico in Auckland. Tho officials of tho Farmers' Onion have been keeping in close touch with tlio.civic authorities in connection with tho mustering of farmers and tho wires have been kept .exceptionally busy all day transmitting messages and instructions to all parts of-tlio provinco. As a result a forco of over 600 mounted men ha 3 been mustered in Hamilton sinco yesterday, contributions having been sont from To Aroha, Cambridge, To Awamutu, Taupiri, and Ngaruawahia. ' Tho messages indicato that the greatest enthusiasm was displayed in the send-offs accorded tho various detachments on leaving lioine, and that
many moro men and horses aro in readiness, if required.-' A body of farmers, which was expected to arrive from To, Aroha last- night, stopped at Hamilton At a conference between representatives of,tho Farmers' Union and members of tho A. and P. Association executive this afternoon, tho latter agreed to co-operato to tho full extent of their ability in tho general schomo for organism" the farmers of the province. It is understood that tho farmers aro to he encamped on ono of tho reserves in the eastern suburbs, so as to bo at closo call in case of thoir services being required in the city. This morning a telegram was' received bv tho Mayor from Tho Hokianga Chamber of Commerce as follows: "Hokianga prepared to provide 200 men to assist in such manner as may bo thought conducive to restoring tho peaceful -receipt and delivery of merchandise or country produco." From Coromandol conies an offer of 60 men for sorvico as special constables, with horses, if necessary. To Aroha offers io send 150 men "at an hour's notice" for working cargo or acting as police. Dargaville sends word that 40 mon aro available as special, constables.
A parade of 800 special constables was held at the Central Police Station this morning at, 7 o'clock, and upon their dismissal, tho men were instructed to report thomsolves again at 7.30 tonight. Superintendent Kiely expresses satisfaction with the physique and general alertness of those comprising the special force. , , , The Harbour Board and soveral, business firms lmv<) submitted that their employees are on masse for service, and it is. estimated, that, by to-night, a city force of nearly 1000 special constables will be available.
