CARTING STRAW & CHAFF.
TWO INCIDENTS.
Towards 4 p.m. yesterday an express laden, with bales of straw approached tlio Harbour Board's weighbridge. It was quickly surrounded by strikers and tho driver wis "put through a cross-ex-amination. t Soon it became evident tliat the pickets would not allow tho chaif to be weighed, and, in. consequonoo tho driver turned and proceeded to his employer's office. Thorn he received instructions to take the chaff to a certain spot ih Upper Willis Street. The express was closely watched, however, and when'it arrived at its destination strikers made a demonstration. Amidst hoots and yells the btmdjos of straw wore mado the objective, and very soon tho roadway was strewn with the contents of the express. And some of tho straw was firea. Tie blaze war at once tramped out by passers-by. Then tho strangest part of the occurrence took place—tho men who had made the demonstration were Been assisting in getting the straw into tho filled. During the afternoon an express belonging to the Now Zealand Colonial Carrying Company was hold ur> at the Queen's Whart entrance by pickets. It contained only one small case of goods. Protest by tho driver was useless, and ho was compelled to roturn with Ms freight. It iB understood that a firm in town has been notified by the strikers that in future no more ohaff or straw must be delivered to the Barraoks. The firm in question has made arrangements by w'hitfh tho Permanent Artillery • men will take the goods to tiho Barracks.
