THE COMMITTEE ENLARGED. Up till Friday last tho Employers' Committee consisted of the roprescntntires of skipping oompames employing

waterside labour, and tho chairman of | the Wellington .Harbour Board. Now that the striko has been extended beyond local bounds, and every section of tho community is likely to feel tits effects, it was decided on Friday list to extend tho representation 011 the Employers' ,Striko Committee so as to include representatives of tho trading, producing, and manufacturing communities. The enlarged committee met on Saturday, when the following resolution was adopted:— "That as the Employers' Striko Committee has been incorporated ill a general committee representing tho trading, producing, and manufacturing interosts of tho Dominion which will deal with all matters in connection with the strike, that the proposals mado to tho Waterside Workers' Union at the conferenco at which tho Prime Minister presided be now withdrawn." Tho proposals referred to in tho resolution wore thoso suggested by tho employers at tho conferenco of both parties (with tho Prime Minister as chairman) hold 011 Wednesday last. They were as follow: — (1) That tho employers adhere to the terms of the resolution passed on Saturday, Octobor 25, as follows: "That thoy could not see their way to resume work under tho late agreement, but that thoy are agreeable, if the men resume work and form a fresh organisation, to enter into an agreement for a term, on tho basis of the wages now being paid, without any materialalterations of the agreement under which the men have been working, the agreement to be registered under the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, in order to secure a definite guarantee that tho terms nf the agreement bo carried out faithfully." (2) That in the event of failure to secure a settlement under the foregoing resolution, tho committoo authorise tho delegates to resuscitate tho late agreement under the I.C. and A. Act for a period of three yoars. (3) That the delegates be authorised to extend tho present agreement for a period of three years from date, to cover tho wholo I'ammion, with a penalty of £1000 for stoppage of work as defined by Clauso 28 of the late agreement. . (4) That the delegates be authorised to extend tho late agreement for a period of three yearn from data, to, apply to Wellington only, with a penalty of £500 for stoppage of work as defined by Clause 28 of the late agreement. (5) That if the workers had any objection to tho Arbitration Court, then His Honour Sir Joshua Williams should be asked to hot aB arbitrator. ■
