A two-roomed whare at Otakeho, in wtloh an old nee pensioner named John Cashin lived alone, was burned to the ground last night. No one saw or heard of the fire until this morniue, when an examination of the ruins Ted to the discovery that the old man had been burned to death, his charred remains being found in the debris. Deceased was a Maori wa'r voteran. * A DROWNING FATALITY. Goro, October 81. Thobodv of a woman named Dickson who was thought to have jumped off the Gore traffic bridge into the Mataura River on August 29, was found on a fence two miles bolow the bridge. this morning. It had been washed up by the flood yesterday. An inquest will bo held. A FATAL FALL. Auckland, October 81. Richard Herbert, aged eighty-five years, died aB the result of injuries sustained through a fall from a window at Kingsland.
